• Hourthen wear it as a warming shawl. If unfolded in a square, it will cover the head, neck, shoulders and part of the back. Soldiers and travelers use shemag in this way when they warm themselves in the evening by a fire or stove (warm air accumulates under a cotton cape).
• If the ends of the scarf are stretched between branches or sticks and form something like an awning, then for a while it will cover from light rain. The same method will help protect from the sun.
• The most common variant of wearing keffiyeh amongEuropeans became a scarf: wrapped around the neck in one or two layers. At the same time, you can twist it with a “tube”. Because cotton doesn't slip as much as synthetics, it's not necessary to tie knots.
• In bad weather or while riding a motorcycle, you can cover part of your face with a scarf (cowboy style) and thereby protect yourself from wind and dust.
• Many men prefer to tie arafat like a bandana. Only rather long ends will hang down at the back.
• Arabic and mosta practical way involves wearing keffiyeh on the head. It is folded in half (along the oblique line) and superimposed in such a way that the longer end is at shoulder level. The smaller end passes under the chin and is held. Then the part that forms a triangle is applied to the face, wrapped around the head. Both ends are tied at the back or side. If necessary, the face can be opened, and part of the scarf in the forehead area can be pulled off a little, forming a semblance of a visor. The neck is completely hidden.
• Desert option. Shemagh is worn on the head with a slight bias. The short end is laid under the back of the head, the long one covers it and is brought out to the face, after which it is wrapped back. Under the crown, the ends are tied or simply hidden in folds. There is a slit for the eyes on the front. You can insert goggles into it to 100% protect your eyes from sand.
