* Flaubert's cartridges

Flaubert's revolver (the English name for the cartridges is .22 CB Cap and .22 BB Cap) stands separately in the list of non-firearms. This is due to the design feature of the ammunition for it. The drum of a pistol (revolver) usually includes 8-9 charges, the most common caliber is 5.6 mm, although there are 4.5 and 4.2 mm. Bullet speed rarely exceeds 210 m/s.
The cartridge looks like a regular combat cartridge with a round bullet, only much smaller in size, the projectile weight is ~ 0.5 grams and the bullet coating is most often copper-plated or galvanized. In Flaubert's cartridge, there is basically no gunpowder, a spherical (or conical) bullet flies out due to the primer composition, which is the propellant charge.
The composition of capsules varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, for example, in German-made cartridges, the main ingredient is bartholite salt. In Czech charges there are additives of gunpowder - no more than 0.01g. Despite this, Flaubert's pistols or revolvers cannot be attributed to firearms due to the small kinetic energy of the shot and, therefore, little harm to the target being hit.
The specific kinetic energy of a shot, calculated at a distance of 1 meter from the muzzle, must be less than 0.5 j/sq. mm. In this case, the weapon cannot be recognized as a firearm. At Flaubert's pistol , it is in the range of 0.34 - 0.47 J / sq. mm, so there is no need to obtain permission.
The capsular composition of ring ignition is placed in the bottom part of the sleeve and has the form of a gray-yellow powder.
The cartridge was patented in 1845 in France and has since acquired some minor modifications. The cartridges are low-powered, although more effective than standard round bullets. The quality of cartridges for Flaubert's revolver is much higher than conventional pneumatic ammunition . The only drawback is that their cost is also an order of magnitude higher, but does not prevent their growing popularity.
The most purchased can be called elongated German-made Flaubert cartridges and shortened ones - Czech.
An interesting feature: the length of the barrel of a Flaubert revolver is inversely proportional to the volume of a shot from it. This is due to the absence of a muzzle flame as the main source of noise, and almost all of the released chemical energy during the combustion of the composition is converted into the kinetic energy of the bullet.
On the basis of one of the first capsule-type ammunition, modern small-caliber cartridges for sports shooting were created from the “small things” known to everyone from the school shooting range.
Mandatory requirements for application:
- Use only branded cartridges, ie. To. they are certified, which means that their quality is beyond doubt;
- do not try to use this type of pistol for other purposes - it was created for training and honing shooting skills;
- do not transport pistols and Flaubert's cartridges across the border - there may be problems with the legislation of the state to which you are going (for example, in Russia there is no appropriate permit due to the lack of certification of such weapons, and in the United States they were discontinued back in the 40s last century).
