1. The history of the emergence of crossbows. Difference from bow. Types of arrows.

Crossbow (translated from French) is a self-propelled throwing weapon . The first copy arose in the 4th century BC. in ancient China and was immediately adopted by the army.

first crossbow The rest of the population of the Earth differently perceived this type of weapon. Eastern countries did not use an improved bow, since in close combat it created inconvenience due to its size. But in the crusades, he gained a good reputation.

In the 10th century , the crossbow also became known in Russia and was widely used. It had the simplest design: a stick made of wood, slightly reminiscent of a bow with a bowstring, which was pulled on a hook, and when pressed, a shot was fired.

From the 11th - 16th centuries , the crossbow acted as a military weapon in fortresses and on ships. Despite the fact that the masters were not strong in the exact sciences, they managed to achieve high aerodynamic performance.

Unlike a bow, the components of a combat crossbow have two features:

· The range of the arrow is much greater.

· In connection with the convenient and well-thought-out lodge, sight and trigger mechanism, the task of the shooter was simplified. There was no need to spend years studying and training.

But in the rate of fire , the crossbow was inferior to its predecessor, so each shooter had a shield with which he took cover at the time of reloading. Based on this, the advanced bow was used in siege detachments and garrisons at the fortress.

On the European continent, the crossbow gained its distribution in the 16th century and was used in many battles. Compared to an ordinary bow, using such a combat tool was not difficult, it was only necessary to understand the specifics of reloading.

advanced crossbow An improved multi-lever trigger assembly began to be used in Germany at the beginning of the 16th century. Despite the fact that earlier Leonardo da Vinci invented the same scheme and tested it in practice.

Gradually, the improved bow began to fade into the background due to the emergence of firearms. In connection with such upgrades, a pistol-type crossbow appeared and was used for hunting small game until the beginning of the 19th century. Pressing the trigger was smooth and easy, they are used in our time. Harpoon -weighted crossbows were popular in whaling.

In the 20th century, the advent of fiberglass gave impetus to a new era of crossbows. The strength of such fibers is not less than that of natural veins used in the manufacture of bowstrings.

2. The design of a modern crossbow

crossbow parts 1. Locks (trigger) are most often made of weapon steel and can withstand heavy loads. The design of the locks can be different: the simplest ones are called "nut", the complex ones (sports type) are made with an adjustable trigger.

2. The stock interacts with the hand, which means it must be anatomically shaped for a strong grip, but it can be different. Often they are stylized antique with carvings or stone inserts; such models are usually bought as souvenirs.

3. Shoulder or arc . They can be divided into block and recursive. For their manufacture, aluminum, composite materials, carbon, steel are used. Spring steel is the most common arc material in domestic crossbows . Modern shoulders do not lose their functions and qualities even after a thousand shots, such as, for example, the arc for the MK120.VR150 crossbow .

4. The stirrup facilitates the cocking process, it can be loop-shaped and T-shaped.

5. The block plays the role of a connecting part between the arc and the box. With it, you can easily disassemble the crossbow. Modern designs are made of steel.

6. The bowstring can be made of Kevlar thread (used in the manufacture of bulletproof vests ) or fastflight thread. The string can withstand huge loads and is designed for a large number of shots, for example, the crossbow string MK-45S .

7. The guide ensures the shooting accuracy and structural strength. In earlier models of crossbows, it was cut on the top of the box. Now it is made of other materials and is attached as a separate part.

8. The sight is needed for accurate targeting, they can be divided into two classes: mechanical (for sports) and optical (for hunting). The sight is an accessory that can be purchased separately.

Arrows are made of various materials: carbon, duralumin, aluminum tube, wood and fiberglass. Their good quality will ensure long service life and range of shots, like the MK-IDS set .

3. Crossbow sport. Types of competitions.

In the mid-1950s, crossbow sport appeared in the West. The principle is to shoot at targets from a distance of 65, 50 and 35 m with special arrows (bolts). Such competitions in Switzerland, Sweden, Austria are held at the state level.

There are two types of competitions - match and field. For each there is a certain type of crossbow :

Match - designed for shots at short distances (5-30 meters) standing and kneeling. The cocking mechanism can be either on the body or act as a separate tool. Competitions are held at the training ground or in the shooting range. In 1958, the first championship was held in Belgium.

Polevoy received official recognition in 1979 in the United States. Competition rules are similar to those for archery. It is necessary to fire 30 shots while standing at three distances: 65, 50 and 35 m. The name of the species indicates where they are held - traditionally on the field. Since 1998 competitions have also been held indoors. The main task is shooting at 18 meters.

4. Hunting. Types of crossbows and arrows.

Each hunter knows better what kind of weapon he likes for him. The silent shooting of a crossbow is its advantage, in comparison with a gun . Only the hunter himself can hear how the mechanism works and the arrow flies out. The noise from a rifle shot is carried over a decent distance and can scare the prey.

The power of such a weapon is admirable, because the mass of an arrow is much greater than the mass of a bullet, and for combat crossbows - dozens of times. At a flight speed of 130 m / s, an arrow, with its mass, hits almost everything on the way to the final target.
Do not forget that a crossbow is not always suitable for bird hunting, but if you are a well-aimed shooter, this is not a problem for you.

To understand what type of weapon for hunting is right for you, you can only practice.

In the hunting craft, crossbows are divided into two types:

recurve crossbow The classic (recursive) crossbow has:

· Lightweight for easy movement.

Accuracy, while not requiring any adjustment.

· Simplicity of a design which gives speed at collecting/dismantling and reliability of the case. This is a significant plus for a novice user to easily understand the use.

· Possibility of fast replacement of a bowstring.

· Great power.

Several of these samples are presented on our website: MK-A4 , MK-B1 , 8144VO 150LBS at an affordable price .

The classic look is mainly used for hunting small game, and sometimes even for fishing.

block crossbow Block type crossbows have great power, so the speed of their arrows is much higher. Compared to classical samples, their weight is much greater. Most often, this type of weapon is used for the extraction of a large animal. When hunting a wild boar, you need a crossbow with a draw force of 80 kg and a shooting distance of 50 m.

The choice of hunting arrows depends on what kind of animal you are going to go for. If on a large individual, then take carbon arrows (bolts). When hunting for a bird, they use aluminum: MK-AL (12 pcs.) , MK-150AL-5P (5 pcs.) . crossbow arrowhead

An important factor is the plumage of the arrow, it is divided into two types:

In hunting, the permissible length of arrows is no more than 50 cm, and the weight is up to 35 grams. Similar calculations are relevant for shooting at a distance of up to 30 m. For game hunting, arrows are recommended slightly shorter and lighter in weight. The tip can only be changed if there is a thread on the ring.

The tip of a hunting arrow, which strongly affects the beast, has the appearance of a harpoon.

The cheapest arrows are considered satisfactory for sports and recreation. In this case, fiberglass or plastic is suitable - set MK-D3 (12 pcs.) .

It is recommended to use one type of arrows so as not to subject the tool to frequent adjustments. Before you buy crossbow arrows , pay attention to their weight - it should not differ from the previous set, otherwise you will have to reconfigure the weapon again.

Users do not speak badly about aluminum arrows, but it is not easy to align the shaft in case of damage. Fiberglass arrows are inexpensive, but their accuracy is poor. The 3-layer carbon ones have received excellent reviews and are recognized as the highest class.

You can pick up original arrows for your model in the Sheriff gun store .
