1. The history of the emergence of crossbows. Difference from bow. Types of arrows.
Crossbow (translated from French) is a self-propelled throwing weapon . The first copy arose in the 4th century BC. in ancient China and was immediately adopted by the army.
The rest of the population of the Earth differently perceived this type of weapon. Eastern countries did not use an improved bow, since in close combat it created inconvenience due to its size. But in the crusades, he gained a good reputation.
In the 10th century , the crossbow also became known in Russia and was widely used. It had the simplest design: a stick made of wood, slightly reminiscent of a bow with a bowstring, which was pulled on a hook, and when pressed, a shot was fired.
From the 11th - 16th centuries , the crossbow acted as a military weapon in fortresses and on ships. Despite the fact that the masters were not strong in the exact sciences, they managed to achieve high aerodynamic performance.
Unlike a bow, the components of a combat crossbow have two features:
· The range of the arrow is much greater.
· In connection with the convenient and well-thought-out lodge, sight and trigger mechanism, the task of the shooter was simplified. There was no need to spend years studying and training.
But in the rate of fire , the crossbow was inferior to its predecessor, so each shooter had a shield with which he took cover at the time of reloading. Based on this, the advanced bow was used in siege detachments and garrisons at the fortress.
On the European continent, the crossbow gained its distribution in the 16th century and was used in many battles. Compared to an ordinary bow, using such a combat tool was not difficult, it was only necessary to understand the specifics of reloading.
An improved multi-lever trigger assembly began to be used in Germany at the beginning of the 16th century. Despite the fact that earlier Leonardo da Vinci invented the same scheme and tested it in practice.
Gradually, the improved bow began to fade into the background due to the emergence of firearms. In connection with such upgrades, a pistol-type crossbow appeared and was used for hunting small game until the beginning of the 19th century. Pressing the trigger was smooth and easy, they are used in our time. Harpoon -weighted crossbows were popular in whaling.
In the 20th century, the advent of fiberglass gave impetus to a new era of crossbows. The strength of such fibers is not less than that of natural veins used in the manufacture of bowstrings.
2. The design of a modern crossbow
1. Locks (trigger) are most often made of weapon steel and can withstand heavy loads. The design of the locks can be different: the simplest ones are called "nut", the complex ones (sports type) are made with an adjustable trigger.
2. The stock interacts with the hand, which means it must be anatomically shaped for a strong grip, but it can be different. Often they are stylized antique with carvings or stone inserts; such models are usually bought as souvenirs.
3. Shoulder or arc . They can be divided into block and recursive. For their manufacture, aluminum, composite materials, carbon, steel are used. Spring steel is the most common arc material in domestic crossbows . 8. The sight is needed for accurate targeting, they can be divided into two classes: mechanical (for sports) and optical (for hunting). The sight is an accessory that can be purchased separately.

3. Crossbow sport. Types of competitions.

There are two types of competitions - match and field. For each there is a certain type of crossbow :

Polevoy received official recognition in 1979 in the United States. Competition rules are similar to those for archery. 4. Hunting. Types of crossbows and arrows.
Each hunter knows better what kind of weapon he likes for him. The silent shooting of a crossbow is its advantage, in comparison with a gun . Only the hunter himself can hear how the mechanism works and the arrow flies out. The noise from a rifle shot is carried over a decent distance and can scare the prey.
The power of such a weapon is admirable, because the mass of an arrow is much greater than the mass of a bullet, and for combat crossbows - dozens of times. At a flight speed of 130 m / s, an arrow, with its mass, hits almost everything on the way to the final target.

The classic look is mainly used for hunting small game, and sometimes even for fishing.
Block type crossbows have great power, so the speed of their arrows is much higher. Compared to classical samples, their weight is much greater. Most often, this type of weapon is used for the extraction of a large animal. When hunting a wild boar, you need a crossbow with a draw force of 80 kg and a shooting distance of 50 m.
